TELL us about yourself, growing up, family background, education and all.

My name is Adeleke Oluwaponle Nicholas (Olunicholas). I am the Creative Director of Reves clothing. Born into a family of five and was raised by my grandmother to be a “gentle man”. Growing up with my grandmother impressed some values on my young mind: the act of genuine love, faithfulness, patience, putting God first and serving humanity. Qualification-wise, I am a graduate of civil engineering.

What does Reves clothing stand for?
Reves is a bespoke tailoring outfit in Lagos. With inspiration drawn from helping more men express their individuality and uniqueness, Reves launched in 2012. Our goal is not just to make men look the part but for them to retain their ‘gentle man’ nature. We pride in creating identical piece for the gentle man who values it; fusing fashion, design, art and architecture. Asides bespoke tailoring, we also design and manufacture everyday clothing with a high taste and considerable affordability.

Just as no two finger prints are similar, likewise no two individual should share similar clothing affinity. We at Rêves, help you to define your ‘style identity’; we offer a private tailoring service through which we provide our clients with a high level of sophistication, originality and elegance.

What else do you do for living?
Majorly I focus on growing Reves. Though sometimes I engage in some side civil engineering projects, my goal is to rely solely on Reves, growing it into a brand everyone loves.

Please fill us in on your rise to fame and how did it all start.
I can summarize it in these words. Passion. Hardwork. Persistence. The inspiration was birthed in 2009 while I modelled for a Fashion Show organised at my church. All along, I have had an interest but on that day I told myself I could do this, I could make many more look the part. I started out and I have decided to stick it all out even when it looks like there is no hope again.

Which of your many jobs excite you the most?
Everything I do excites me. I grew up with a saying “Anything worth doing is worth doing well”. I feel most excited when my clients call back to thank you. And ordinarily keeps us moving.

What has been the highest point of your fashion career?
We haven’t gotten to that point yet. For me, I believe the sky is just the beginning. We have enjoyed so many successes, we are working to be the best and to stay on top of our game.

What has been the lowest so far?
Early rejections and disbelief. People tend to look down on young people starting out. In all, we make them disregard their beliefs when we deliver superior outputs to what obtains in the market.

What is the plan for the future? short term goals.
Expansion. Expansion. Expansion.

What’s your take on the fashion industry?
I believe the industry has just found its niche and still fast growing in Nigeria. Now, Nigeria has to find her own originality in order to create a global mark.

Do you think fashion is underrated?
I will say YES and NO.
NO: In recent times, more people are fashion conscious than they were few years ago, they pay more attention to their outfit than ever before.
YES: Some still undermine the value of a tailored item. Any tailored item is not cheap anywhere in the world. This is so because of the time spent, quality of craftmanship and attention to details that has gone into it.

What’s your day like in the fashion world?
Just like that of a passionate stylists. Create styles. Recreate styles and manage productions.

What’s your style preference?
I try to get away from the common things but I keep the basic rule “always a gentleman”. i.e always keep it simple, elegant and classic

Do you have a style icon?
Not really

Are you a trend/designer buff or does anything go for you?
Simple, elegant and classic but always in Reves.

Have you ever suffered a fashion faux pas? If yes tell us about it.
NO. You can never go wrong being a gentleman.

If you had an opportunity of swapping wardrobes with anyone, who would that be?
Hmmmm…I think myself

What’s the most expensive fashion accessory you own and how much?
I’d prefer not to say that but I don’t look for expensive items I simply go for something classy.

How do you serve your community?
Serving humanity is one of the things I love doing, a value impressed on me since I was a child. Most times I volunteer for a number of NGOs. I believe the greatest way to serve humanity is with your time.
