THE Inspired Youth Network (IYN) has enjoined young Nigerians to transform from passive observers into active participants in the electoral process, especially as the nation approaches the upcoming election cycle.

Speaking at a sensitization programme themed ‘Strengthening Civic Engagement for First-Time Voters initiative’ the Communications Officer, IYN, Oluwaseun Oladejo engaged participants with interactive icebreakers highlighting the importance of voting as a civic duty. Oladejo reinforced the initiative’s objective which is to mobilise the youth to engage meaningfully in governance’s process.

“You are more than just voters; you are the architects of our country’s future,” she declared as she underscored the session’s call for active participation.

The initiative unfolded through a series of informative sessions aimed at bridging the knowledge gap regarding the electoral process.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, IYN, Oluwademilade Orimolade, framed the day’s activities within a broader context funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and ActionAid Denmark. Participants also benefited from a practical session delivered by Kehinde Olanrewaju, who provided essential tools and strategies for securing their PVCs.

The pinnacle of the event was a “Youth-Led Dialogue on Collective Commitment to Civic Action,” where attendees engaged in brainstorming sessions to identify challenges of impeding youth involvement. They advocated for a “Plus-5 Strategy,” encouraging activists to mobilise at least five individuals to vote while bolstering trust in the electoral system through grassroots initiatives.

Young participants at the event exchanged ideas, pledging not only to secure their PVCs but also to become ambassadors for civic engagement within their communities.
