Trackfit Community Nigeria hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at UNILAG
…Provides Free Breast Cancer Screening To Over 150 Women
One hundred fifty-six people participated in a vibrant celebration of health, resilience, and community spirit at the 2024 edition of the Trackfit Community annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk founded by fitness enthusiast Ademola Alugo.
Participants dressed in pink to show solidarity for breast cancer awareness at the event which held at the University of Lagos, Nigeria (UNILAG) recently.
The walk covered a scenic 5km route, starting from the UNILAG back gate and passing through Ransom Kuti and Afe Babalola Hall before circling back. Along the way, attendees engaged in fitness demonstrations, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.
The event commenced with an inspiring opening speech by social media influencer Osas Irianele followed by a sensitisation talk by the representatives from St. Cyril Cancer Treatment Center, who emphasised the critical role of early detection and regular screenings in breast cancer prevention.
Amal Outreach further supported the awareness campaign by offering essential health checks, underscoring the importance of proactive health care.
One of the highlights of the day was the spirited 500m x 4 relay race led by Coach Martins. Following the relay, Pink Clinic provided participants with vital health screenings, including private consultations, to reinforce the event’s commitment to wellness and preventative health.
Remarking Founder and Coordinator Ademola Alugo said: “The fight against cancer is one that we will keep leading; at Trackfit, we encourage health prioritisation for our community members and the general public. One of the few ways this can be achieved is through regular checkups and awareness campaigns such as this. We recognise the role of October in breast cancer awareness, and we are pleased to be part of people and organisations joining hands to ensure everyone is knowledgeable about breast cancer. I appreciate all our sponsors and the University of Lagos for supporting us on this drive.”
One of the sponsors, Bay Ice, marked the occasion with the launch of its Elegant Women watch, designed to empower and inspire women. “We’re proud to support this meaningful cause and encourage women to prioritise their health.”
