World Teachers Day: Ex IPAC Chair felicitates with teachers
~Says Osun government not doing enough for education
The former Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr Wale Adebayo has congratulated teachers on the occasion of 2024 World Teachers’ Day (WTD) celebration.
In a statement signed on Saturday, he appreciated the teachers for the significant role teachers play in nation-building.
“We celebrate you, the true pillars of knowledge and builders of our society. Your commitment, dedication, and selflessness in shaping the future of our children and our community.
He added that despite the efforts of our teachers to impact knowledge on our children, they have been overburdened by the Adeleke led administration.
“The last administration recruited 1,500 teachers to reduce teachers shortfall but Gov. Adeleke sacked them unjustly”
“Recently he carried out his own recruitment exercise, till date, nothing has been heard about it”
Specifically, Adebayo pointed out that the government has failed to deploy newly recruited teachers to schools which has resulted in a shortage of teachers and impact the quality of education
In terms of education, he emphasized the importance of quality education, citing the state’s poor performance in recent WAEC and NECO results.
Adebayo carpeted the Adeleke led administration of just paying lip service to the issue. He questioned whether the Osun State government is focused on quality education or just for rhetoric”
“We demand that the government deploy newly recruited teachers immediately, ensure transparency in the recruitment process, and prioritize quality education,” said Adebayo, who is also the Chairman of APM.
As we celebrate World Teachers Day, it’s crucial to recognize the challenges teachers face and work towards creating a supportive environment for their professional development.
“We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the future of our state to provide quality education”,
“In fact, UNESCO’s theme for this year’s World Teachers Day is “Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education,” highlighting the need to integrate teachers’ perspectives into educational policies”, the statement reads.
