Board seeks tax holiday for boxing tournaments sponsors in Enugu
The Enugu State Boxing Association Board, has urged the Enugu State Government to grant tax holidays to willing boxing tournaments sponsors in the state.
This is contained in a statement by the Vice Chairman, Ebubechukwu Nwobodoand the Technical Director, Blaise Ude in Enugu on Tuesday.
The board said that such tax incentive would spur more organisations to promote and sponsor boxing events in the state.
“We appeal to the state government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to reduce or outrightly remove the taxes payable by boxing tournaments sponsors in the state.
“This will no doubt encourage more sponsors from both within and outside the state to get involved,” the statement read in parts.
It further said that such move would make it easier for the board to scout for tournament sponsors both within and outside the state.
“If sponsors are given tax holidays, boxing will surely grow in Enugu State, this is because sponsors will be motivated to move in,” the board said.
The board disclosed that 10 male boxers had been selected to represent Enugu State in the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun in May
It said that the boxers were selected after the trial events which brought together no fewer than 20 participants.
“The boxers are now in a close camping until the departure for the festival in May, ” the statement further read.
