Nollywood actress and politician, Funke Adesiyan, has withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat for Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
Adesiyan announced her decision in a letter dated April 24, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.
The letter was shared on her Instagram page on Saturday.
She said the decision came after “certain reflections and high-level consultations,” adding that it was a personal and well-considered move.
“This decision is personal, deliberate, and guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape, as well as my commitment to long-term value, credibility and purposeful service,” she stated.
The actress-turned-politician thanked her supporters, party members and stakeholders for standing by her during her political journey.
“I remain fully appreciative of the confidence reposed in me across different levels and the encouragement received from supporters and stakeholders within and beyond our constituency,” she added.
Adesiyan said stepping back would allow her to refocus and continue serving the people through other platforms.
“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues,” she said.
She also restated her commitment to the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria.

In 2019, Adesiyan was appointed Personal Assistant to former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on Domestic and Social Events.
The appointment was announced after approval by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adesiyan joined active politics in 2011 as the South-West coordinator for Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s presidential campaign.
She later contested for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the APC in 2018.
She is also known for her roles in films such as Eti Keta and Obinrin Ale.
