Akon Drops Second Album “Akonda” In The Space Of Three Weeks
African-American music heavyweight, Akon just released his highly anticipated album tagged “Akonda“.
Akonda is an Afrobeats album, which takes the “Lonely” crooner back to his roots for the first time on a full-length album release.
On October 4th, Akon released the Spanish language album, El Negreeto. The album was the first of its kind for Akon, and also the first of a number of releases he revealed he would be putting out on his new venture, Akonik Label Group.
The label “Akonik” is a partnership with former CEO and President of Motown Records Kedar Massenburg. Akonik Label Group is comprised of four record labels each focusing on specific genres: Akonda (Afrobeats), Akonik (U.S.), Ke Lo Ke (Latin music) and Jamakon (Caribbean).
Even though releasing albums almost back-to-back seems risky, it had zero effect on El Negreeto. The album hit number 1 on the APPLE Music Latin Charts, which makes Akon the first African American to have a number 1 Latin Album.
Another interesting fact about Akon’s new releases is linked to working on several tracks in the ‘Akonda‘ album with talented Nigerian artistes, like Olamide, Kizz Daniel and Skales. The influence these Nigerian acts have on the album in general is audible enough, whether or not credits were given.
