AY calls out gender bias in filmmaking
Popular Nigerian filmmaker and comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has voiced his frustration over the perceived lack of support from his male counterparts, despite his efforts in the entertainment industry.
AY, who has carved a niche for himself in comedy and filmmaking, suggested that men are more inclined to uplift women than their fellow men.
He shared his thoughts on this issue via his X handle on Monday, December 23, 2024.
The 53-year-old entertainer, who has been in the industry for over two decades, stated, “One Day men go tell man ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we get breasts and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?

“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up.”
AY, whose films like 30 Days in Atlanta and Merry Men have set records in Nollywood, hinted that staying in the filmmaking business has been challenging due to inadequate support from his peers.
