AY Opens Up On Alleged Rift With Basketmouth
Comedian AY has given reasons why he and fellow comedian Basketmouth don’t talk.
AY revealed this in a recent ‘ask me anything’ session which he organised on his Instagram page.
A follower had asked, “@aycomedian do you really have any issues with basket mouth?”
Responding, AY confirmed that while he wasn’t friends with him, he had no “issues” with him.
He wrote, “I don’t have issues with him. But people having unnecessary issues with you are the price you sometimes pay for being progressive.”
Ay also noted that “he has been battling with his uncontrollable superiority complex for the longest. So avoiding his incessant childishness only became necessary for my own sanity.”
Following his response, another fan commented, “@aycomedian in other words the both of you don’t talk.”
And confirming her assumptions, he wrote, “We only talk to those who want to talk to us. Does this make sense?”
This is not the first time news of the alleged rift between the two comedians has been made public.
In August 2021, Basketmouth addressed their rift in a Black Box interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio when the conversation of alleged disunity among comedians in Nigeria came up.
Basketmouth addressing his issue with AY, had said, “I don’t mess around with loyalty. He came into my space and messed around with loyalty.”
“He said something that he wasn’t supposed to say. That was going to cause a rift between me and this person.”
“It was Magmus (Umeri), my lawyer. I said something to AY, and he told Magmus, and he wasn’t supposed to say it.”
Basketmouth, however noted that they had settled and now remain cordial with each other “We made peace and he apologised.”
