Grealish, who was on the field contributing to his team’s 3-1 victory against Everton, had his family inside the £5.6 million mansion when the burglars struck.
The family, including Grealish’s fiancée Sasha Attwood, parents, two sisters, and brother, activated panic buttons as barking dogs and noises upstairs alerted them to the break-in.
Police, concerned about a potential hostage situation, responded swiftly, deploying a helicopter to search the area. Despite these efforts, the burglars managed to escape with the valuable loot.
The mansion, recently occupied by Grealish before Christmas, witnessed the family running for cover. The large property, set in 24 acres of land, features a helipad, tennis court, football and cricket pitches, and a lake.
The burglars struck when Manchester City was playing live on TV, and the family had gathered to support Grealish. The Sun reported that the gang took watches and jewelry while the family pressed the security panic alarm upon realizing the intrusion.
This unfortunate incident adds to a worrying trend where high-profile footballers, including Grealish and West Ham’s Kurt Zouma, have become targets of such burglaries.
The situation prompted West Ham to offer a £25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the burglars who raided Zouma’s home.
As investigations continue, The Guardian will continue to give you updates as it unfolds.
