Prince William: The First Royal to Appear on a Gay Magazine Cover
I woke up to this bit – ‘Prince William is giving Prince Harry a run for his money as the most woke royal in the UK, seeing as he has become the first British royal to appear on the cover of a gay magazine’.
In the July issue of Attitude, the Duke of Cambridge speaks out against LGBT bullying and talks about his Heads Together campaign, which raises awareness for mental health issues. In the interview, he said, “no one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives”. “The young gay, lesbian and transgender individuals I met through Attitude are truly brave to speak out and to give hope to people who are going through terrible bullying right now. Their sense of strength and optimism should give us all encouragement to stand up to bullying wherever we see it.”
Prince William’s groundbreaking cover came just in time of the horrific mass shooting on Sunday, which killed 49 people at Pulse, an LGBT nightclub in Orlando.
For the issue, Prince William invited several LGBT people to Kensington Palace to share their experiences with violence, depression, and suicide.
Attitude’s editor praised Prince William’s contributions the cause. “During my time as editor of Attitude I have met parents whose child has taken or lost their life after being bullied for being LGBT or just perceived to be LGBT,” he said. “I am very happy that the future king of the United Kingdom agrees this must stop.” Ditto.
