The Leo season is finally upon us! Leo which is Latin for Lion is the fifth sign of the zodiac that corresponds to the constellation Leo and comes after Cancer and before Virgo. Leo is represented by the lion and they are energetic fire signs who also are the kings and queens of the celestial jungle.

They have been described to be passionate, vivacious, lovers of the spotlight and they are known to be natural leaders; Leos’ have their birthday between July 23 and August 22. From excellent footballers, reality TV personalities to famous actresses and politicians, the Leo season is chock-full of celebrities that shine brightly.

Charles Chukwuma Soludo

Born 28 July, Soludo is a politician and economics professor who serves as the fifth democratic Governor of Anambra State since 17 March 2022. He is also a former governor and chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), appointed as the bank’s governor on 29 May 2004 and a member of the British Department for International Development’s International Advisory Group and member of President Buhari’s Presidential Economic Advisory Committee.

He is known by the religious title Khalifa Sanusi II; he was born on 31 July and is a spiritual leader in the Tijanniyah Sufi order of Nigeria. He is a member of the Dabo dynasty and was Emir of the ancient state of Kano. He succeeded his great-uncle Ado Bayero to the throne on 8 June 2014 and spent most of his reign advocating for cultural reform in Northern Nigeria until his dethronement on 9 March 2020 by the state government. He served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014, ushering in banking reforms until his suspension after he brought to light the $20 billion oil scandal.

Nwankwo Kanu

Kanu, born 1 August is a former professional footballer who played as a forward. He was a member of the Nigeria national team and played for the Nigerian team Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Dutch side Ajax, Inter Milan of Italy and English clubs Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth. He is one of few players to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal and is regarded as one of the best players in African football history. He is the owner of Kanu Sports TV, an Internet sports television company.

Uti Nwachukwu

Born on 3rd August, he is a style icon, TV personality, actor and the co-host of the show Jara. Uti is the 40-year-old representative from Nigeria in Big Brother Africa 3 and he became the third evictee of Big Brother Africa 3 house in 2008. In 2010 Uti competed as a contestant in Big Brother Africa 5: All-Stars in which he ultimately won. Uti has appeared in several Nollywood films; including The Changer, Finding Mercy, Nnenda, In the Cupboard, Broken Silence, Weekend Getaway, and Deep Inside.

Jesse Jagz

Jesse Garba Abaga, known professionally as Jesse Jagz was born on August 10 and he is a rapper, record producer and songwriter. He signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010 and released his debut studio album Jag of All Tradez that same year; he voluntarily exited the Chocolate City deal in 2013 and announced the launch of his independent label, Jagz Nation.

She is best known for starring as the lead character in a 2014 film titled Chetanna which earned her a “Best Actress” nomination at the 11th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Nwokoye has gone on to star in several Nigerian films winning awards and earning nominations.

Kiki Mordi

Born 12 August, Nkiru “Kiki” Mordi is an investigative journalist, filmmaker, writer and entrepreneur. She dropped out of school because she was harassed by a certain lecturer in her school; this ordeal was what led to her contribution to the Sex for Grades video with the BBC Africa Eye. The documentary exposed the depth of sexual harassment among Nigerians and Ghanaian lecturers and won several international awards. In 2016, she won the award of Outstanding Radio Program Presenter (South-South) at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards.

Destiny Etiko

Born 12 August, Destiny Etiko is an actress, whose career received prominence after she featured in a film titled Idemili produced in 2012 by Ernest Obi but was not released until 2014. Her role in the film earned her a City People Entertainment Awards nomination. Before her role in the film titled Idemili, Etiko had appeared in other films although did not receive prominent roles in them.

He rose to prominence with the release of the hit single, song “MJ” and a follow-up remix which featured singer Mayorkun. He was also featured in Olamide’s song titled “Loading” off his album, Carpe Diem which earned him the title of “Rookie of the Year” at The Headies 2020.

Augustine Azuka Okocha commonly known as Jay-Jay Okocha born 14 August is a former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He played 73 times for the Nigeria national team between 1993 and 2006, scoring 14 times, and was a member of three FIFA World Cup squads. He is regarded as one of the greatest football players from Africa.

Samson Siasia born 14 August is a former professional football striker and the former head coach of the Nigeria national team from 2010 to October 2011, he was reappointed in 2016. On 16 August 2019, FIFA banned Siasia from all football activities for life which was later reduced to five years, following a match-fixing investigation.

Oluwatosin “Tosyn” Bucknor born 15 August was a writer, singer-songwriter, radio and television host, social media content creator and a Vlogger who died of sickle cell anaemia. Until her death in 2018, she worked with Inspiration FM as a journalist and also ran ‘These Genes Project’ to help people with sickle cell anaemia.

Douglas Jack Agu born 19 August, better known by his stage name Runtown is a singer, songwriter and producer. In 2014 he released “Gallardo”, a song which features vocals from Davido and was immediately put into the spotlight after the release of the song. In 2015, Runtown released his debut studio album titled Ghetto University through Eric Many Entertainment.

Augustus Taiwo “Tai” Solarin was an educator and author. He established the famous Mayflower School, Ikenne, Ogun State in 1956. In 1952, Solarin became the principal of Molusi College, Ijebu Igbo, a post he held till 1956 when he became the proprietor and principal of Mayflower School. Tai Solarin is one of the post-Independence civil
rights critics and activists in Nigeria. He was born 20 August and died on 27 July 1994.
