If you’re in Abuja and you’re on the hunt for a low-key spot, then you have a lot of options because almost all the restaurants in Abuja are quiet, particularly in the daytime. This time, I was on the hunt for a simple burger and I found a nice spot called The Secret Garden.

Located at 979 Ahmadu Bello Way, Wuse, this beautifully planned garden is the perfect not so intimate lunch date spot. With a very open space, an outdoor section, the décor consisted of a lot of artwork accompanied by some comfy looking mats and chairs. Their menu was fully stocked with a variety of meals, from burgers to pizza, to shawarmas, there’s something for everyone.

Beef bacon burger

Beef bacon burger and fries

Great burgers are hard to come by in Nigeria as I find that there’s always something wrong. Most times the beef or the bread and other times, the sogginess of the entire meal. Today was different as the burger was much better than I anticipated, due to my past experiences with burgers.

Although I like my burger patties soft, the one was crisp, as though it had been toasted. I asked them to remove the lettuce, which they did, so the burger was simple with some beef, cheese, bacon, tomato, and onions.

Spiked chap man

Spiked Chapman

I like to call this my special mix. If you’ve never tried a shot or two of Jack Daniels (JD) in Chapman then you’re in for a treat. There’s something really magical about the taste of the drink, as the JD doesn’t change the Chapman, it complements the flavours quite nicely.
