Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has opened up on how he left home at the age of 15 to chase his music dream despite his father’s refusal to support the move.
The singer smade this known in a recent interview with Korty EO, where he reflected on his early years and the difficult decision that shaped his path.
According to him, his father’s strong will made it hard for him to seek approval when he decided to leave home and focus on music.
“The father who gave birth to me, he is way more stubborn than I am, so I could not look at his face. We were close when we were younger, but it got to a time when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no. I took off regardless,” he said.
“… I was 15. I was just focused on where I was going, and there was nothing anyone could tell me.”
Asake later rose to prominence in 2020 with his song Lady, which brought him wider attention in the music scene.
His career took another major step in February 2022 when he joined YBNL, the record label founded by rapper Olamide.
Since then, he has released three studio albums, Mr Money With The Vibes in 2022, Work of Art in 2023, and Lungu Boy in 2024.
The award-winning singer has remained one of the notable names in Afrobeats, earning several nominations and honours within and outside Nigeria.
