Egba indigenes on Saturday converged at the Ake Palace grounds in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to round off activities for the 39th Lisabi Festival, bringing to a close a week-long programme that began on March 23.

The annual festival is held in honour of Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, the legendary warrior remembered for leading the Egba uprising against the Oyo Empire in the 18th century, a struggle that secured their freedom.

Over the years, the celebration has grown into a cultural event marked by homage rites, historical reenactments, traditional drumming and vibrant dance displays.

Organised under the leadership of the Alake of Egbaland, the festival draws participation from all Egba divisions, including Ake, Oke-Ona, Gbagura and Owu.

Across the venue, coordinated outfits made with Adire fabric stood out, while the festival also attracted Egba sons and daughters returning from abroad.
