This shade was as a result of a happy accident and it has solved the thousand year old quest of the Egyptians, the Han dynasty in China, Mayan cultures and others to develop a near-perfect shade of blue.

YInMn blue as it would be called is named after the elements – Yttrium, Indium and Manganese. It was found by Oregon State University chemist Mas Subramanian and his team while experimenting with materials for electronics applications.

It was serendipity, actually; a happy, accidental discovery,” Subramanian said.

Four things you need to know about this new beauty;

  • It doesn’t fade.
  • It is non-toxic
  • Fairly easy to produce
  • It is also energy proficient

Although YInMn would be used for a wide range of coating and plastic, we can’t wait to see the magic various fashion designers would produce with this new shade of blue.
