Tina Turner Is Honoured By Mattel With The Creation Of Barbie
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Tina Turner’s popular song “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” toy company Mattel (MAT.O) is commemorating her with a Barbie doll made in her image.
The doll, which is a part of their Barbie Signature Music Series, is dressed in an ensemble modelled after the song’s music video, including a black minidress, a denim jacket, and her distinctive hairdo.
Turner, 82, said in a statement that she was honoured to welcome Barbie into the group of groundbreaking women already represented and to introduce more children to her journey.
The eight-time Grammy winner had great success in the late 1960s and early 1970s when she collaborated with her ex-husband Ike Turner, but their tumultuous marriage ended in divorce in 1978.
Turner attended the Broadway premiere of The Tina Turner Musical, which details her life and career, in early November 2019.
After her final tour, which concluded in 2009, she decided to stop performing.
Turner, a Tennessee native, went to Switzerland in 1995 to live with her German-born record producer partner Erwin Bach. In 2013, Turner married Bach, and in April of that year, she became a Swiss citizen.
The doll may be bought on MattelCreations.com, as well as via Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
