Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote called him to delete some of his social media posts during the Osun State governorship election.

Davido said he rejected the requests because the posts concerned the election involving his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The singer made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, two days after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15 election.

Davido played an active role in his uncle’s campaign after he was appointed Head of Youth Mobilisation for the governor’s reelection bid.

During voting and collation, the singer shared polling unit results and questioned delays in uploading results to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal.

He also accused Akpabio of attempting to interfere with the collation process.

Speaking about the pressure he faced over his online updates, Davido said, “I heard the Senate President was trying to call the collation centre… They were calling me to delete. I said sorry o. You guys have literally just gone against my uncle… I can’t delete anything. Uncle Aliko called me too. I said, ‘Uncle, I’m not deleting until the INEC announcement,’” he revealed.

The singer also alleged that more than N110 billion was spent in an attempt to influence the outcome of the election.
“I just confirmed today. They spent N110 billion. I’m coming from somewhere where we had an insider who was sending us… If you see the cash these people brought in. If they had gotten away with that election, Nigeria is finished. Because the blueprint for election will now be violence and money,” he stated.

Davido did not explain how the N110 billion figure was calculated.

The allegation has also not been independently verified.

Neither the Senate President nor Dangote had publicly responded to the singer’s claims at the time of filing this report.

Davido said his family depended on voters to reject financial inducements and protect their votes rather than compete with the alleged spending.

“We didn’t spend a dime on election day. All we could do was just pray that these people take their money and vote for us,” he said.

He also credited residents with resisting attempts to disrupt voting and seize electoral materials.

“It got to a point where it was the Osun people that were beating the people that were trying to seize ballots. People are tired,” he added.

INEC declared Adeleke, the Accord candidate, winner of the election after he secured 511,067 votes.

His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, received 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes and secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
Reacting to the result, Davido said the outcome showed that public support could defeat political and financial pressure.

“My uncle should be an example to all other government officials and governors. When you stand by the people, the people will stand by you,” he stated.

Davido has remained a prominent supporter of Adeleke’s political career.

He campaigned for him during the 2018 and 2022 governorship elections before taking a formal role in the 2026 campaign.

The Adeleke family also has deep political roots in Osun State.

The late Isiaka Adeleke, another of Davido’s uncles, served as the state’s first civilian governor between 1992 and 1993. He later represented Osun West in the Senate before his death in 2017.
