American rapper Meek Mill has expressed his desire to obtain Ghanaian citizenship, citing America’s oppression of black men as his motivation.

The Philadelphia-born artist, who recently faced allegations of being gay and involved in a sexual relationship with Diddy, took to X on March 5, 2024, to announce his decision.

“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!” he tweeted to his millions of followers.

Meek Mill has always shown his love for Ghana, after performing at the Afro Nation music festival in December 2022.

He also met and held a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, where he filmed portions of a music video. He later apologized to Ghanaians for his actions after he was dragged for filming without permission.

However, Meek Mill’s announcement comes at a time when he is embroiled in a controversy involving Diddy, the founder of Bad Boy Records.

According to a lawsuit filed by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a former producer and videographer for Diddy, the hip-hop mogul sexually harassed, drugged, and threatened him over the course of a year.

The lawsuit also claims that Diddy told Jones that he had sex with an unnamed rapper, an R&B singer, and Bad Boy producer Stevie J.

Although the names of the rapper and the singer were not stated in the lawsuit, footnotes attached to them suggest that they are Meek Mill and Usher, respectively.

The rapper was described as “a Philadelphia rapper who dated Nicki Minaj”, while the singer was described as someone who “performed at the Superbowl and had a successful Vegas residency”.

Meek Mill has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “sick” and “weird”. He also implied that there was a conspiracy to damage his reputation, and accused DJ Akademiks, a popular hip-hop commentator, of being an “alcoholic with no life” who is “trying to destroy black men”.

He also boasted about his sexual prowess with women, saying that he has sex with a woman “twice a day” when she is around him.

Meek Mill has not yet revealed any details about his plans to become a Ghanaian citizen, or how he intends to deal with the lawsuit and the rumours.
