Nollywood actress, Jumoke George, has shed light on why she was missing from the movie industry for a long 14 years.

During an interview on Oyinmomo TV, released today, October 25, 2024, she opened up about the challenges she faced, revealing that refusing to give in to sexual advances from directors contributed to her absence.
Jumoke, known for her dark complexion, also mentioned that her skin tone was another barrier in landing movie roles.

She recalled how directors would complain about her complexion, but she stood her ground, asking them to adjust the lighting instead of her skin tone.

“My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced in my career. Another reason why I did not get movie roles for like 14 years is my refusal to sleep around,” she said.

The actress was unapologetic about her decision to maintain her integrity, despite the pressure.
She declared, “You can’t push me to do something I do not want to do. I will glow with this skin till old age, and do not forget, black does not crack.”

Jumoke also shared a moment when she finally realised why she had been blacklisted. “I didn’t get any movie roles for three years, and I did not understand what was happening until the day I saw one of our directors at Feminine Cafe at LTV 8, and asked him why he no longer called me for work,” she recounted. The shocking answer? “He said it was because you refused to sleep with them.”

With tears in her eyes, Jumoke returned home that day, praying for God’s intervention. For her, staying true to her values was more important than compromising for fame, and she held on to her belief that, as long as God exists, she wouldn’t stoop to those demands.
