Soludo Vs Onitsha Traders: Who Blinks First?
THE question above is what many observers of the ongoing impasse between Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State and traders of the popular Onitsha Main Market in the state, are asking at the moment.
Tired of the unnecessary and ineffective ‘sit at home’ order given by the separatist group in the Southeast of Nigeria, IPOB, for almost a decade now in pursuit of their agenda to get a country of their own called Biafra, Professor Soludo, last week gave an order that any government worker who failed to come to work, any shop or business outlet that failed to open on Monday, going forward, would have his outfit and or market shut for one week till the owner(s) will have some sense even as the Governor claimed that the security apparatus of the state can now safeguard the people and their businesses from the popular IPOB/ESN unknown gunmen who have been killing, kidnapping and terrorising residents of not only Anambra but other states in the South East region.
Well, long story very short, Onitsha Main Market traders dared Soludo and failed to open shop(s) last Monday and true to his words, the Governor ordered the closure of the market reputed to be the biggest commercial market in the whole of West Africa (whether that claim is true or not, go and verify on ya own).
The traders immediately embarked on a ‘we nor go gree’ demonstrations which as at Thursday, was still on as security forces stationed at strategic places in the market were seen in different videos chasing them away.
Back to the question above? Who will blink first, Soludo or the traders? Will Soludo bow to pressure and open the market before the Monday date and will the traders still refuse to open shop on Monday in defiance until their jailed ‘Supreme Leader’ is released ‘unconditionally’ from the Sokoto prison?
We will find out soon.
