Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has claimed the number one spot on Apple Music Nigeria with his latest single, Kese (Dance), just hours after its release today, November 15, 2024.

The Grammy-winning artiste, fondly called Big Wiz by fans, dropped the track following the success of his recent collaboration, Piece of My Heart, which features American singer Brent Faiyaz.

Before the release, Wizkid took to his social media, simply posting “Midnight” alongside the song’s cover art, sending fans into a frenzy of anticipation.

Not one to shy away from breaking records, Wizkid’s earlier track, Piece of My Heart, became the first African song to hit over one million streams on Spotify in a single day.

The album, a tribute to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, has been highly anticipated by fans.

Wizkid lost his mother in August 2023 and has described Morayo as his most personal work to date.

In a statement earlier this year, Wizkid clarified that Morayo would not be an Afrobeats project and urged fans of the genre not to expect the usual.

“Album name ‘Morayo,’ best I ever made. I am not an Afrobeats artiste. Don’t call me that,” he wrote.

“If you like Afrobeats, please don’t download my album. I’m not Afro anything.”

With Kese (Dance) already topping charts, Wizkid’s upcoming album is set to further showcase his evolving sound and unmatched artistry.
