No fewer than 113 million faced acute food crisis last year, the 2019 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) has disclosed.Released yesterday in Brussels, the document noted that the crises were primarily fuelled by conflict and climate-related disasters in eight countries, including Nigeria.

It indicated that about two-thirds of those facing acute hunger were also in Afghanistan; Democratic Republic of Congo; Ethiopia; South Sudan; Sudan;Syria and Yemen.

“These eight countries accounted for two thirds of 113 million people facing acute food insecurity – amounting to nearly 72 million people,” the report added.
