AT least, 10 orphanage homes have received food, books and clothing materials, courtesy of 12 Baskets Initiative, as a way to alleviate their plights.

The initiative, a brainchild of Beyond Usual Care Foundation, is set up to source for donations from the public for orphanages and other needy groups, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and widows.

Founder of the project, Ms. Majiri Oniko said the initiative was borne out of her observation that people donate food and other welfare materials to orphanages and other less privileged groups more during the festive seasons, adding that many do not realise that the children do not disappear after the festivities.

“They are still there and their needs are even more pressing in those times. What usually happens after those events is that they would wait till another festive period,” she said.

Oniko maintained that the giving should be an ongoing process, hence the birth of 12 baskets platform, where people can donate to charity.

She disclosed that for continuity, AstroTurf 2000 Ikoyi, Osborne Road, Lagos, has been designated as donations collection centres and that donors are expected to be their every third Saturdays of the month.
