The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that 16 military officers have been arrested and are set to face disciplinary trial over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.
A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, on Saturday, said the arrests followed a routine military exercise during which investigations revealed that the officers’ grievances were largely linked to perceived career stagnation, including repeated failures in promotion examinations.
“Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service,” Gusau stated.
He added that upon the conclusion of investigations, the indicted officers would face the full military disciplinary process in line with established procedures to ensure accountability and uphold professionalism within the Armed Forces.
Gusau emphasized that the move was a purely disciplinary measure aimed at maintaining order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks.
“The Armed Forces will not tolerate any behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority,” he said.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to their constitutional responsibilities and will continue to uphold professionalism at all times.”
