20 Persons Under Watch In Kano Over Lassa Fever

NO fewer than 20 Lassa Fever suspects are currently undergoing clinical monitoring in Kano to ascertain the level of their infection.
About 114 of the 120 persons who had contact with the two people confirmed dead earlier underwent 21 incubation period test, and were satisfied free of contamination after completion.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, while briefing journalists on the development revealed that about 20 of the suspects are still being monitored to ascertain the level of their infection. He however maintained that the suspects are in stable condition
“The situation of Lassa Fever case in Kano is stable and under control and there is no cause for alarm and members of the public should not panic because the state government has put measures in place to curtail the spread,” Getso said.

He revealed that the state government has provided ambulances, equipment and drugs to all the established isolation centres and at all the 37 general hospitals in the state including Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in its determination to manage the Lassa fever outbreak.

While explaining the disease is very contagious, Getso disclosed that additional health workers have been trained and deployed to the health facilities in the state.

Also, he said community sensitization campaigns have been intensified to create awareness on the inherent danger of the disease while insisting on personal and environmental hygiene.
A father and his son died of the disease at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano on December 4, last year.
