As 2023 general election draws near, calls have been made by stakeholders to engage the youths and sensitise them on the essential use of their PVCs to enable them exercise their franchise.

To motivate and sensitise the youths, a group, Pull-Up Naija brought youths together at the Freedom Park, Lagos Island. At the event, people where given the opportunity to register and get their PVCs.

While briefing journalists in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer, Cut24 Productions and Convener, Pull-Up Naija, Hauwa Allahbura, said the movement was formed to bring young minds together and motivate them to exercise their right to vote.

“In 2023, the power is in our hands. I observed that there is a huge gap between the number of people that registered and the number of people that vote on election day.

“So, I thought to myself that youths have to take election seriously by getting their PVCs to enable them to vote. We are breaking the myth that votes don’t count. So many times, we have heard people say they already know who win the election and our votes don’t count. We want to change that narrative.

“So, we need to make the right choice. We are taking thousands of people round INEC offices to register for their biometrics and also going round to sensitise the youths on the need to vote in 2023. We hope to take our enlightenment campaign across the six geo-political zones,” Allahbura said.

Popular Nollywood Actress, Ronke Oshodi Oke, urged youths to do thorough thinking before they choose who will lead us. She said youths would be able to achieve this by ensuring they get their PVCs. “I plead with our youths to vote their conscience and do things properly.”

According to renowned singer and voice coach, Yinka Davies, Nigeria is our home. She believes things can be done the right way if youths come out and take it upon themselves to use their PVCs to vote a good leader that will lead well.

“Nigeria is our rooftop and foundation. If it is in a messed up state, it will affect everyone. I urge our youths and every well-meaning Nigerians to get their PVCs ready to exercise their civic rights in the next year’s general elections. Get your PVC ready and vote rightly.”

Civil rights and Tech Advocate, Tomori Uriel, said youths shouldn’t be discouraged. He said it is paramount that youths take the coming election seriously by participating fully in the voting process to bring in capable hands that will deliver dividends of democracy to the people. “Nowadays, people are beginning to hold government accountable and standing up for their rights.

“As the 2023 approaches, ensure you have your PVC as getting it is the best decision you can ever make in order to give you the opportunity to fully participate in the voting process.”

Also, Leadership coach and Co-founder of Giaa Foundation, Dr. Utchay Odims, said youths should vote their conscience and not for money. “Election is around the corner. Some people will sell their votes for five kilogramme of rice, five or ten thousand naira.” According to him, those things are not worth it.

“In 2023, youths should make it a point of duty to vote rightly and not sell their conscience. It is when the right people are voted for, that we will begin to see basic infrastructure and other necessary things put in place.”

Alongside other guest speakers who spoke to the youths is Nollywood star, Lateef Adedimeji, who called on youths to use the power of their PVCs to make their vote count by voting in good leaders in the 2023 general elections.

“It is very important that we all get out PVCs to vote for people of our choice and people who we believe will do the right thing. In the face of challenges, I urge our youths not to lose hope, but have faith that things can change for the better.”
