Ahead of 2027, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday threatened to constitute a ‘shadow government’ to expose the failures of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in Kano.
The Patriotic Volunteers, a group within the Kano chapter of APC, insisted that the option of a shadow government has become necessary to put Kano on the right track.
Addressing journalists at the weekend, the National President of the APC Patriotic Volunteers, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, pointed out that the group is planning to assign its members to all the ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in Kano to monitor government activities.
The deployment of APC agents would enable the group to form “constructive criticisms” that would prompt the government to take necessary actions in public service.
“We are going to do it in Kano by assigning our members to MDAs to monitor their activities and come up with a report. We are planning this, and we will soon address a press conference to inform the general public about this move,” he said.
Alhaji disclosed that the APC Patriotic Volunteers, which currently has 60,000 members across the 44 local government areas of the state, has commenced an online registration exercise to expand its membership base, targeting one million members before 2027.
He explained that to achieve the one million support base, the group is now targeting 200,000 members through online registration, who will vote for APC and dislodge NNPP in 2027.
He said the APC Patriotic Volunteers, which was registered 10 years ago by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and other relevant authorities, emphasizes loyalty to party supremacy. According to him, the group was created to promote internal democracy within APC and good governance in government.

“We have equally resolved to make good use of media platforms for campaigns through the recently constituted media committee under the able leadership of Mallam Saleh Abubakar Kwaru.
“The committee is to embark on a media onslaught to enlighten and mobilize members of the public on the desirability of emphasizing merit, experience, and competence in endorsing candidates for elective positions or appointments.
“The association also agreed to emphasize issue-based campaigns as the basis for selecting candidates for elective positions to ensure full democratic dividends. In the same vein, the APC Patriotic Volunteers have endorsed and fully support the candidature of Hon. Dan’azumi Gwarzo as the APC Kano State Chairman in the upcoming party congresses.
“This, of course, includes fully supporting and encouraging other willing members who are desirous of contesting any party position at all levels. It is part of our resolution as a way of mobilization, aimed at reaching out to other bodies or groups with similar objectives for synergy and collaboration.
“Good citizenship, good governance, rule of law, and patriotism remain our advocacy to conform with international standards, conventions, and norms for entrenching these ideals. The spirit of volunteerism through the improvement of freedom of speech, association, and movement, as well as the principle of merit for sustainable development, loyalty to the party, and party supremacy through a good internal democratization process, remain our norms,” Alhaji added.
The group commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in revitalizing the economy, adding that the prices of food commodities and fuel were going down, which will subsequently stabilize the economy.
The APC Patriotic Volunteers also praised the National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for “delivering well” in his responsibilities, which has led to many opposition members continuing to decamp to APC.
