The Middle Belt Pentecostal Association (MPA) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the association described the decision as a demonstration of continuity, stability and commitment to national development.
MPA President, Rev. Jolly Usman of Grace Assembly, said the Tinubu-Shettima ticket reflects strategic leadership focused on addressing the challenges facing the North and the Middle Belt.
The endorsement comes amid continued debate over religious balancing in presidential tickets, with the association saying leadership performance and governance should take precedence over religious considerations.
“We wholeheartedly welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s decision to retain Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 election,” Usman said.
“This decision signals continuity in leadership and a commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has begun transforming critical sectors of the economy.
“As northern Christians, we have witnessed progress in infrastructure, security initiatives in the Middle Belt and efforts to bridge developmental gaps. Shettima’s experience and dedication make him the right partner to consolidate these gains.”
The association also commended the vice president’s role in promoting interfaith dialogue and supporting humanitarian interventions in conflict-affected communities.
It urged Nigerians to assess the ticket based on governance and performance rather than religious composition.
“Vice President Shettima has demonstrated commitment to national cohesion. His collaboration with President Tinubu has produced results in agriculture, education and peace-building initiatives that directly benefit our communities,” Usman said.
He added that the association consulted its member churches before adopting its position, saying members agreed that the current leadership offers the best prospect for stability and continued development.
The group also cited youth empowerment initiatives, infrastructure projects and programmes aimed at improving farmer-herder relations as evidence of inclusive governance.
It called on Nigerians to support leaders it believes have demonstrated the capacity to govern effectively and sustain national development.
