A move to strengthen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the southeast region ahead of the primaries of the party begun on Tuesday as it’s Presidential Aspirant, Peter Obi, held meeting with it’s leadersh
ip.
The strategic meeting held in Enugu, was attended by the five state Chairmen – Enugu, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra as well as it’s zonal leadership in the southeast.
Although resolutions of the meeting were not made public, sources however, said it was part of efforts to strengthen internal party structures and consolidate regional political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to a statement issued by the ADC Media Team and signed by Martins Chiedozie Ugwu, the meeting focused on strengthening party cohesion, promoting internal democracy, and aligning leadership priorities across the South-East.
The statement added that the meeting discussed issues affecting the political future of the South-East within the broader Nigerian project.
“It was an opportunity for all of us to meet and discuss issues that affect Ndigbo’ political endeavours in the Nigerian project,” it said.
The statement further described the engagement as a major success and a step toward building stronger regional cooperation within the party.
Those who have followed developments within the party also agreed that the meeting may have effectively rested the leadership issue in the party in Enugu State, as it recognised Professor Uche Akubue as the authentic chairman of the party in Enugu State.
The ADC leadership in Enugu State has been embroiled in controversy, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s chairmanship.
