• Enugu West to buy guber nomination form for Mbah
• Diri pledges support for City Boy Movement
The Rivers State Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has launched a bold political initiative aimed at reshaping the state’s electoral landscape.
The PFN unveiled a newly formed Directorate of Politics and Good Governance with a clear message: low voter turnout will no longer decide leadership.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, the PFN Chairman in the state, Minaibi Dagogo-Jack, said the church was stepping into a more structured civic role to ensure that the “will of the people prevails” in the 2027 general elections.
At the heart of the move is what the PFN describes as a vision for the “enthronement of righteous governance.”
Dagogo-Jack pointed to what he called a troubling statistic from the last gubernatorial election in which out of about 3.5 million registered voters in Rivers State, only 303,000 votes, less than 10 per cent, were sufficient to produce a governor.
“That reality is unacceptable. We are determined to mobilise our church people,” he declared.
Also, the newly inaugurated directorate, with officers drawn from all wards and local council areas, is designed as a grassroots mobilisation engine.
According to the PFN, its mandate includes ensuring that church members obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), participate actively in elections, and align behind a consensus candidate deemed capable of delivering good governance.
Dagogo-Jack stressed that beyond mobilisation, the directorate would also focus on peaceful conduct during the electioneering period, while working to curb the irregularities that have historically marred elections in the state.
Meanwhile, the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone, yesterday, said that they would buy the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for Governor Peter Mbah for his second term bid.
They said purchasing his nomination form was their way of showing support for his second-term ambition as well as appreciating his services to the people of the state since his assumption of office.
Addressing journalists in Enugu, in preparation for a mega rally in favour of Mbah, billed for Awgu Local Council, its Organising Committee Chairman, Charles Egumgbe, noted that the governor had transformed the state and, therefore, should be supported to continue in office.
Egumgbe noted that Mbah had moved into all facets of governance and had made indelible marks that had given Enugu a new name.
In another development, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has expressed his administration’s support for the City Boy Movement (CBM) towards actualising its objective of re-electing President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The movement is a youth-focused political advocacy group supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Diri pledged when the group led by its Director-General, Mr Oluwatosin Shoga, paid him a courtesy visit in the Government House, Yenagoa, yesterday.
He said the CBM’s vision aligns with that of his administration in nurturing the potential of youths to become leaders of today.
“For us as a state government, we believe that the youths have to be leaders of today and not tomorrow, and you can see that reality reflected in my appointments. My Commissioner for Youth is one of the youngest in my cabinet.
