2027: Senate Urges Youths to Reject Violence, Drug Abuse Ahead Electioneering

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Senate has called on Nigerian youths to avoid violence, torture, and drug abuse during the electioneering period, while encouraging constructive engagement with leaders.

The advice was delivered on Thursday in Abuja by the Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, during the launch of the Renewed Hope Agenda Continuity Marshals (REHACMA) at the Yar’Adua Centre.

Monguno emphasized that young Nigerians should be “enlightened and impartial,” contributing ideas that advance national development and good governance.

He highlighted legislative initiatives by the National Assembly, including: The Electoral Act, which creates a level playing field for youth participation in politics, and the Student Loans Bill (NELFUND Act), assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, supporting education and human capital development.

He also praised REHACMA for providing a platform for youths to articulate their interests and play a meaningful role in governance.

Monguno noted that youth inclusion is central to the Renewed Hope Agenda, with deliberate efforts to integrate more young Nigerians into leadership positions.
Other speakers at the event included: Dayo Israel, National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who encouraged active political participation among youths.

Osawemwenhio Uwagboe, REHACMA National Coordinator, who urged youths to take responsibility for shaping Nigeria’s future.

The event featured the unveiling of REHACMA national executives, a Q&A session, and other activities.
