… Says marketing Tinubu’s candidacy in 2023 challenging
… Dismisses one-party state claims
The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has launched its second-term mobilisation drive for President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the president’s bold reforms and achievements qualify him to lead Nigerians for another four years in office.
The support group, operating under the renewed banner SWAGA 2.0, kicked off its mobilisation effort in Akure, Ondo State capital, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assuring that the state will give the necessary support.
With the event drawing hundreds of supporters to the International Conference Centre, The Dome, Aiyedatiwa commended the SWAGA team for the foresight in backing Tinubu at a time when many political observers doubted his presidential prospects in 2023.
According to Aiyedatiwa, the group’s original mission to ensure Tinubu’s emergence as president had been accomplished, stressing that the renewed SWAGA 2.0 is now squarely focused on securing a second term in 2027.
“About four years ago, when SWAGA was formed, many people did not give our current president a chance. But SWAGA was visionary; they saw what others could not see.
“For us in Ondo State, we have set a target of a minimum of one million votes in the next election. That is our benchmark,” the governor said.
The National Chairman of SWAGA, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, who gave an assessment of the group’s previous efforts, disclosed that marketing Tinubu’s candidacy to Nigerians ahead of the 2023 election proved challenging.
According to Adeyeye, many voters remained sceptical despite Tinubu’s track record as governor of Lagos State, emphasising that those doubts had since been dispelled by his performance since assuming office.
Adeyeye, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), hailed the Tinubu administration for what he described as decisive policy actions that helped stabilise the economy and set the country on a path to recovery.
Adeyeye, however, dismissed claims that the president was orchestrating a move toward a one-party state, insisting that Nigeria remains a multi-party democracy where strong leadership naturally attracts widespread support.
On his part, the Executive Director of Corporate Services, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Abegunde Ifedayo, appealed to SWAGA members to replicate the energy of 2023 ahead of the 2027 polls.
