2028: Supporters tip Charles Orie as strong Imo governorship contender

As the 2028 governorship race in Imo State begins to take shape, political observers and grassroots supporters have started identifying potential successors to Governor Hope Uzodimma. Among the names being put forward, Chief Charles Orie is increasingly gaining attention as a leading aspirant.

Supporters describe Orie as a politician with a track record of consistency, credibility, and public service, both in private enterprise and within political structures. Known for his calm disposition and reputation for integrity, Chief Orie is being positioned by his backers as a steady hand capable of building on the current administration’s gains.

“Imo needs a leader who is both competent and free of political baggage. Chief Orie fits that profile,” a supporter said on Thursday. “He has remained focused on the progress of the state and has maintained cordial relationships across political divides.”

Amid growing political rhetoric and rivalries ahead of party primaries, some of Orie’s allies have also pushed back against recent criticisms directed at him, claiming they are rooted in personal grievances rather than substance.

“Those who benefited from his generosity are now the ones maligning him,” one supporter alleged. “But the public can see through that.”

Although Chief Orie has not formally declared his candidacy, campaign-style endorsements and mobilisations continue to surface across platforms, with growing calls for him to contest.

Whether or not he enters the race officially, political analysts note that his name will remain one to watch as 2028 approaches, especially within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party currently governing the state.
