26 killed in Borno blast
Twenty six people were killed on Saturday after a suspected suicide bomber detonated his Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a Mosque near the Monday Market in Maiduguri.
A trader at the market, Mallam Modu Walama, told newsmen that the blast occurred shortly before the commencement of the afternoon prayer at the mosque.
“I had wanted to say my afternoon prayer but something told me to go inside the market.
“But immediately I left the vicinity, I heard a loud blast emanating from the mosque,” Walama said.
He said that on hearing the blast, he took to his heels to escape being injured.
“I cannot say exactly the casualty figure but I know so many people died,” Walama said.
Mallam Mohammed Abubakar, another trader, corroborated the claim.
“I think about 20 people died going by the magnitude of the blast,” Abubakar said.
Reacting, Mr Aderemi Opadokun, the Borno Commissioner of Police, confirmed the blast.
“A suicide bomber strapped with IED exploded himself in Alhaji Haruna Mosque at Galadima Kyari drive Ali Kotoko Road near the Monday Market.
“The incident happened around 3.30 p.m., while Asar prayer was being offered at the mosque,” Opadokun said.
“Twenty six people were confirmed dead while 28 were injured,” he said.

Where the Britain and the US can help Nigeria is to find out how BH is being funded.
How do they smuggle sophisticated weapons into the country. They reportedly , recently acquired rocket propelled grenades which they are now using with devastating effect, Direct military confrontation can only go so far. We need to cut-off the head of this snake.
This group of mad dogs are receiving help from somewhere. They need to be unmasked.
The hope was that Candidate Buhari will crush BH. We shifted ‘small’ and the hope became that President-elect Buhari will crush BH once the ‘elect’ has been deleted from the Pres. Once more we are asked to ‘shift small’. Evidently, Pres MB has not crushed BH. BH seems to be welcoming him to the duel! There is the story of the Frankenstein Monster. The northern oligarch wanted to wrest power from the infidels. BH was created for that purpose. Unbeknownst to the creators, BH has developed some sense of its own. BH latched into the worldwide acrimony between major religions and the governments of the world. It is a decisive battle, one must totally win the other. So, the monster is turning on its creators and engaging one of its mentors, even before the mentor enters the Presidential Villa. My advice, President Buhari, please face your ‘duty’ towards BH. What goes around comes around. Remember your statement; ” I will make the country ungovernable……..”
We will review and take appropriate action.
