3 charged with alleged culpable homicide

Three persons, Ibrahim Kauran-Bindiga, Muhammad Lawal and Saifullahi Salisu, were on Wednesday charged before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court, for alleged culpable homicide.

The trio, who reside at Filin-samji area of Katsina, were charged on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The prosecutor, Insp. Kabir Muhammad said that the accused allegedly killed one Usman Abubakar by stabbing him with sharp knife in the stomach, while he died on the spot.

He told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on May 21 at about 3.30 p.m.

According to the prosecutor, the father of the deceased, Malam Abubakar Kankia reported the case at the Central Police Station on the same day.

Muhammad said that the complainant had told the police that his son, Usman, had misunderstanding with Kauran-Bindiga who took Usman to the outskirt of Katsina and killed him.

He said that Lawal and Salisu who were accomplice were now at large.

Muhammad said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.

The court did not take the plea of Kauran-Bindiga, while Senior Magistrate Maryam Hamdana adjourned the case till June 17, for further mention.

She ordered for the remand of Kauran-Bindiga in prison custody.
