Four teams will slug it out in the maiden FCT T20 Cricket League organised by the FCT Cricket Association in collaboration with the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF).

Saad Butt, the Technical Director of the FCT Cricket Association, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

According to him, the competition is geared towards developing the game in the state.

Butt said the championship, which would take place from June 6 to June 13, would gulp about N500,000, adding that it was organised to select players that would represent FCT in the forthcoming national championship.

“This is the first time FCT Cricket Association is organising this T20 cricket league in Abuja and we are doing it in collaboration with the NCF.

“This is to grow cricket and to engage more cricketers locally from Abuja and FCT, so that we can draw up a pool for the upcoming national championship in which FCT is going to take part, that is the major aim.

“For the winners of this championship, we have the trophies and N100, 000 for the winning team and for the runners up, we have of course the trophy and N50, 000.

“In addition to that, we have individual prizes for the best batsman, for the best bowler, best keeper, best fielder and we will have N10, 000 each.’’

He said that N5,000 would also go to every player that emerged as the “man of the match’’ for the six games that would be played.

Butt also said that the sponsors of the championship, Serendib Restaurants, Mouna Apartments and VOIX Network had agreed to work with NCF and FCT Cricket Association to make it an annual event.

Asian Cricket Club, Cricket Club Abuja, Pakistan Stallion Cricket Club and United Cricket Club are the four teams that will vie for honours in the championship.

NAN reports that Cricket Club Abuja will play United Cricket Club in the opening match at the cricket pitch, National stadium Abuja from 9 a.m.

The second match of the day will be between Asian Cricket Club and Pakistan Stallions Cricket Club at 1 p.m.
