400 secondary schools to participate in Abia quiz competitions, says commissioner

About 400 public and private secondary schools are to participate in future Abia State secondary schools quiz competitions instituted and sponsored yearly by Chief Ray Nkemdirim, under the auspices of Ray Nkemdirim Foundation (RNF).

The state Basic Education Commissioner, Ukwu Emma, disclosed this at the weekend when he told The Guardian that the state ministry of education would sustain collaboration with the Foundation, cause more private and public schools to participate in future competitions. He commended Chief Nkemdirim for initiating the quiz competition.

At the 2022 grand finale of the competition held at Umuahia, Nkemdirim doled out N1,750,000 prize to the first, second and third position winners.

While the first position winner, Adventist Technical Secondary School, Ohafia, got N1m prize, the second and the third, Master Vessel Classical Academy and Victory College International, Aba, got N500, 000 and N250, 000 cash prizes, respectively.

Nkemdirim said the quiz competition is part of his Foundation’s strategic community-oriented action for good governance and sustainable development initiative. He said the quiz competition vision is towards encouraging and promoting better education. According to him, education remains key to development. He, therefore, tasked students to take their studies seriously to attain their desired future goals.
