5 Feared Killed In Gombe Motor Park Blast

The explosion, which occurred at about 19.58p.m led to the eruption of pandemonium as the sound of the blast was heard in all parts of Gombe metropolis.

Confirming the casualty figure to The Guardian, the Gombe Head Operation Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Saidu Minin said NEMA’s search and rescue team arrived the scene in good time after the blast occurred and assisted the victims.

While  five people lost their lives, while 15 persons, according to him, sustained various degrees of injuries.

“Our search and rescue team were there immediately we heard the blast. They evacuated five corpses of those who lost their lives.”

“The fifteen people that sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and the state Specialists Hospital for treatment,” he said.
The bomb was reportedly dropped by a middle-aged woman, who arrived the gate of the ever-busy park at around 19:55 p.m, while the device exploded few minutes later.

One of the survivor, who narrated how the bomb exploded to our reporter, said the act was carried out by a woman who pretended to be a traveller coming to the park to board vehicle.

According to him “She came here pretending to be a passenger and dropped her wares at a shop, saying she will go and get her other bags and come back soon. Not long after she left, we heard a loud sound and saw people flying in different directions.”
The woman the woman whose identity is unknown was said to have escaped and cannot be traced.

The Guardian noticed that the area has been cordoned by security operatives as investigation into the matter, according to the police continues.
