Amid controversy surrounding a video clip showing his greeting gestures during his visit to the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has said his gesture was out of respect for the governor.

Musa called for a shift in attention towards pressing issues facing the nation.

Musa’s remarks follow a video that went viral online on Monday showing him shaking hands with the Kano State deputy governor while opting not to shake the hand of Governor Yusuf, and instead bowed to him.

Musa had earlier dismissed the video circulated by one Theo Abu, but he however, in a statement on Tuesday defended himself.

He said: “It has come to my attention that on a moment captured almost a month ago, has unexpectedly become the centre of attention on social media. It is disheartening to see a simple act of cultural respect blown out of proportion.”

He reiterated that he thought the posters was joking when he posted the video but he soon discovered that it was blown out of context.”
