Aba Geometric Power Plant for commissioning in August

The Geometric Power Limited power project at the Osisioma Industrial Area in Osisioma Ngwa Council near Aba, Abia State, will commence power supply in six months.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Prof. Barth Nnaji, stated this when Governor Okezie Ikpeazu visited the site to inspect facilities of the project, adding that it has capacity to provide steady power to Aba and its environs.

Nnaji told the governor that Aba currently gets a maximum of 50 megawatts of power from the National Grid, but that the Geometric Plant has capacity to produce 140 megawatts of electricity, which he stated, was enough to provide steady power to Aba and its environs.

He also said all the required support infrastructure were already in place, including the 17 kilometer pipeline through which gas would be conveyed from Owaza in Ukwa West Council to the plant, adding that six months from now, the plant will be commissioned to supply power to Abia people.

Nnaji, long before the contractual problem that led to the stalling of the project, $500 Million Dollars had already been invested in the project and described the project as the largest economic project in the entire South East of Nigeria.

Ikpeazu described the project as the fulcrum upon which the industrial development of the state, the South East zone and especially Aba, would revolve.
