The Minority Leader in the National Assembly, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has assured traders at the popular Ogbo Ogwu Market at Onitsha that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, Valentine Ozigbo, will not let them down, saying he will be a leading voice for Ndi Igbo.

Abaribe made the declaration, yesterday, when he took Ozigbo on his governorship campaign rally to the famous market, reminding them that he had always been a defender of the Igbo cause and would continue to ensure justice for Ndi Igbo.

The senator, who said he had been a standing ally of Ozigbo, vouched for his passion and commitment to improve the lots of Ndi Igbo.

IN the same vein, the vice presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, who noted that November 6, 2021 election would determine the lot of Ndi Igbo in the coming years, expressed the need for Anambra people to align with the PDP, which he said, had always protected the interest of Ndi Igbo and will negotiate for their interest at the centre.

In his remarks, Ozigbo promised to give quality leadership like Obi.

MEANWHILE, a coalition of human rights organisations, International Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law, (Intersociety), South-East Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) and South-East Based Coalition of Democracy & Human Rights Organisations, have warned against perceived bid to deploy 100,000 policemen for the Anambra governorship election with the intent to instil fear and voter apathy.

The Convener of Southeast Based Coalition of Democracy & Human Rights Organizations, Emeka Umeagbala, in a statement made available to The Guardian, yesterday, expressed the fear of possible emergence of an unpopular candidate as the next governor of the state.

He contended that Anambra State is running at high speed and risk of becoming a ‘nomadic rain-forest state’ if the poll is scuttled by ‘sit-at-home’ or ghost street protest by the agitators.

He also expressed fear of possible purported massive rigging of the poll by state actor poll riggers, deployed security agencies and non-state actor collaborators.
