Abdul re-elected weightlifting federation president

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul has been re-elected President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) for a second term after an unopposed victory at the Elective Congress held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Gymnasium Hall. Abdul secured all 12 votes cast in the election.

The congress also produced other leadership results. Mr. Lawrence Iquaiborn was elected Vice President, defeating Innocent Nwankwo 8 votes to 4, while Sefia Onubaye won the Technical Representative seat with a 30-4 landslide over Mr. Christopher.

Stakeholders praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections, describing them as a model for sports governance in Nigeria.

In his post-election remarks, Dr. Abdul expressed gratitude to members for their confidence and outlined the new leadership’s vision. “Our goal is not just to dominate Africa but to conquer the world in the sport of weightlifting,” he said.

The NWF president’s re-election signals continuity in leadership as the federation positions itself to expand Nigeria’s footprint in international weightlifting competitions.
