Abia NLC urges FG to enforce new minimum wage implementation
In order for the newly approved national minimum wage not be a mirage and become binding only on the federal government, chairman of the Abia State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Uchenna Obigwe has tasked the federal government to enforce its implementation by all the states and local governments in the country.
Obigwe who spoke with journalists in Umuahia, pointed out that all workers on all levels buy from the same market even as they hold the same educational qualifications obtained from same institutions. He suggested that to ensure that all workers enjoy the new wage, the Federal Government should reposition the states by adjusting the national revenue sharing formula and supported increase in value added tax, (VAT) positing that the country has been losing much through inappropriate tax payments.
Obigwe who is also the Zonal Chairman of Forum of NLCs in Nigeria lauded the efforts of President Buhari, organized labour and other strata of government in the country for the eventual advent of the minimum wage adding that Labour canvassed for national wage and not living wage, hence the need for employers to adopt and implement the new wage.
