Chairman of Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emma Nwaka, a lawyer, has prayed the President of the Court of Appeal to disband the committee set up to hear the appeal filed by the PDP closest rival in this year’s governorship election, Dr Alex Otti and his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Incumbent governor and PDP candidate in the election, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, was declared winner of the said election but APGA and Otti quickly filed an appeal before the Owerri division of the Court of Appeal challenging his victory.

Nwaka, who addressed journalists in Umuahia at the weekend, distributed copies of his party’s petition on the matter and urged the president of the Court of Appeal to disband the panel.

“This request is supported by the overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence tilting to the fact that the present panel will not be fair to all parties in this matter in the discharge of their judicial function,” he said.

His call followed the earlier one allegedly sponsored by the state APGA through a purported arm of the Catholic Church also calling for the disbanding of the same panel. The Catholic Church has since dissociated itself from it.
