Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has taken an important step toward the 2026 Hajj exercise by appointing respected Islamic figure Alhaji Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelogun to oversee the spiritual and administrative coordination of pilgrims from the state.

In a move aimed at ensuring a seamless pilgrimage, the governor approved the appointment of Alhaji Apelogun as Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The Amirul Hajj, who holds the revered titles of Asiwaju Adinni of Ogun State and Baba Adinni of Remoland, is expected to provide spiritual leadership and guidance to pilgrims throughout the exercise.

Complementing this appointment, the government also named Sheikh Zakariyah Ishaq Olorungbebe as chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for the 2026 Hajj operations.
In this capacity, Olorungbebe will oversee the board’s administrative and logistical framework, ensuring effective coordination before and during the pilgrimage.

However, the Governor charged both appointees to approach their responsibilities with dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of service, stressing the need for synergy and efficient leadership in delivering a successful exercise.

He further underscored the importance of prioritising the welfare, safety, and spiritual well-being of pilgrims, noting that the government remains committed to putting in place the necessary support systems to achieve a smooth and fulfilling pilgrimage experience.
