Senate Leader says no Nigerian should die for elections
Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, has declared that no Nigerian deserves to lose his or her life as a result of political competition, warning actors against electoral violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement yesterday, by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Bamidele said political ambition must never come at the cost of human lives, stressing that Nigeria’s unity and peace must remain paramount.
He also called for urgent prayers and collective action for children, parents, and teachers still in captivity of bandits and kidnappers, referencing recent abductions in parts of Borno and Oyo states.
ALSO, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has admonished religious leaders to sustain their fervent prayers towards the peace, unity, and stability in the country before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
According to Bamidele, Eid-el-Kabir should go beyond a yearly celebration and serve as a reminder of sacrifice, obedience, and national commitment, drawing lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s example.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to strengthening security architecture, improving social protection systems, and ensuring strict punishment for perpetrators of kidnapping.
Abiodun also urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu, and called on parents to be more proactive in fulfilling their responsibilities toward their children as they marked this year’s Children’s Day.
The governor, who was represented by the senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, Shuaibu Afolabi, spoke yesterday while delivering a message to Muslim faithful in the state at the Lantoro Praying ground, Abeokuta.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Sa’addallah Bamigbola, urged Muslims to continue to uphold the virtues of peace, tolerance, unity, and selflessness, noting that these values were essential for the progress and peaceful coexistence of the society.
