Presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mr. Kola Abiola, yesterday, said he would do everything necessary to uphold the unity of Nigeria and go all out to deal hardly with secessionists if elected president on February 25, 2023.

He made the vow at a presidential parley organised by the Southwest Development Stakeholders Forum (SDSF), held at Jogor Center, Ibadan Oyo State. The first son of late business mogul and acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, the late Chief MKO Abiola, said action of the secessionists group(s) requires decisive and hard response because it is unconstitutional and also amounts to treasonable offence.

According to him, “I will not accept any action that would threaten the unity of Nigeria if elected. My administration will encourage them if only their demands and activities would not affect the unity of Nigeria.” He also promised to turn the country around for the betterment of all Nigerians irrespective of their tribe or religion.

The PRP presidential candidate said Nigeria needs new set of leaders who have the interest of the masses at heart. Abiola however urged eligible voters, especially women not to mortgage the future of their children in the coming elections.

He said, “Nigeria needs new set of leaders. And only the masses can change this narrative. Don’t sell your votes because of N2, 000. Don’t sell your vote because of two kongos of rice. Vote for the right candidate and that’s why I am seeking for your votes now so as to return the lost glory of this great country.

” I will not allow anything that will affect the unity of this country. I will come hard on secessionists because their action is unconstitutional and treasonable.”

Also addressing the forum, the presidential candidate of Action Alliance (AC), Omoyele Sowore, expressed displeasure over the lack of unity among the Yoruba race.He said most of the leaders in the Southwest behave below expectations by working against the principles and disciplines of the founder of Action Group (AG), the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola.

According to him, “Some Yoruba leaders worked against the chances of Awolowo and Abiola from becoming the president of Nigeria. Showore recalled the best achievements of late Awolowo, especially in the areas of education, health and housing. He said, “Many leaders are not fit to be at the helm of affairs. Many Nigerians abroad are ready to come back home only if Nigeria becomes better. We have people who can rebuild the country but they are not happy to return home. Nigeria as a country has challenges of electricity, security and enormous crisis and if care is not taken the challenges may become complex.”

Sowore urged Nigerians not to vote for people who are not ready to work for the development of the country but only interested in their own selfish gains.
