The Abuja Catholic Archdiocesan choir at this year’s Abuja Provincial Catholic Liturgical Music Council Conference Lokoja 2018 competition defeated seven others to clinch the first prize.

The choir came first in a keenly contested liturgical music competition held at St. Francis Parish, Lokoja, at the weekend with Lafia and Makurdi Diocesan choirs coming second and third respectively.

The conference with the theme, “Restoring the dignity of Catholic Liturgical Music had participants from eight dioceses in the Abuja Ecclesiastical Province made up of Abuja, Lokoja, Idah, Lafia, Gboko, Katsina-Ala and Oturkpo.

The competition centered on new composition of new songs that that would be used for worship during communion rite, in the various local languages to enrich the worship during liturgy.

The Catholic Bishop of Lokoja Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Martin Olorunmolu, who spoke at the conference, challenged Christians to worship God through songs that lift up the souls of worshipers to worship in spirit and in truth because he who sings well, prays twice.
