Political activist Rex Daniel Amerika has called on critics to desist from attacking the judiciary and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, amid the political turbulence surrounding the Rivers State Assembly.
In a statement he personally signed, Amerika condemned what he described as a calculated campaign by the Rivers government to mislead the judiciary and tarnish Wike’s reputation.

“Despite claims of defection, the conditions for such a move were not satisfied,” Amerika noted, describing the defection incident as a “smokescreen” intended to mislead opponents and push them into costly missteps. He suggested that without the defection, the administration would have struggled to find grounds for the Assembly’s impeachment moves. “This so-called defection drama was simply a strategy to lure Sim into making irreversible mistakes,” Amerika stated.
In a passionate critique, Amerika pointed out that the defection scenario has implicated the Rivers State administration and has brought some of its officials under scrutiny from the Judiciary, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and even President Bola Tinubu. He remarked, “The defection saga has exposed certain individuals and their supporters to serious legal repercussions, placing them under the radar of both the EFCC and law enforcement agencies.”

The activist further accused Rivers State officials of hypocrisy for questioning the Judiciary’s impartiality, highlighting that the State High Court previously ruled on matters beyond its jurisdiction, allegedly at the behest of payments by the administration. “No supporters of Wike accused the Judiciary when rulings favoured them, yet today, the same officials are quick to cast aspersions,” Amerika argued.
Urging pro-Sim Fubara allies to respect the rule of law, Amerika warned them to prepare for the “brutal legal onslaught” ahead. He emphasised that the judiciary’s integrity should not be compromised through media campaigns or political manoeuvring, concluding, “The law is supreme and cannot be bent by media or political manipulation.”
